Govt starts probe into MESCO,DSW ‘irregularities’

The General Administration Department (GAD) of the state government is inquiring into the alleged irregularities at the Department of Sainik Welfare (DSW) of the state government located at Ghorpadi

The General Administration Department (GAD) of the state government is inquiring into the alleged irregularities at the Department of Sainik Welfare (DSW) of the state government located at Ghorpadi.

In reply to a series of complaints and copies of The Indian Express news reports sent to chief minister’s office by city-based Commander (retd) Ravindra Pathak,S P Musale, section officer,GAD has said that “inquiry is being carried out on the lines of complaints (received by the CMO about irregularities and mismanagement of DSW and MESCO) and that the government will revert back after the report of the inquiry is available.”

Pathak said,“The reply from the CM office is a step ahead. But it would have been satisfactory had the inquiry been ordered by the CMO and not by GAD. Moreover,a reply saying that committee has been formed to look into the matter has been formed would have been more substantial.

“This is because GAD directly administers the functioning of DSW and may not be able to carry out an independent probe like the CMO or another independent department. We plan to continue our fight against the injustice that DSW has been doing towards ex-servicemen by carrying out activities which do not necessarily fall in the category of welfare.”

The alleged irregularities include functioning of Maharashtra Ex-Servicemen Corporation (MESCO) Ltd,issues concerning collection of Flag Day fund, diversion of the fund to MESCO,not transferring the profits made by MESCO to the fund, functioning of Mahasainik City,Mahasainik Lawns besides others.

Maj (retd) Milind Tungar, deputy director,DSW and Col (retd) Suhas Jatkar, director,DSW,did not answer calls .
