Godman arrested for duping woman of Rs 8.5 lakh

Sangvi police Wednesday arrested a godman for allegedly duping a woman of gold and cash worth Rs 8.5 lakh .

The suspect is identified as Manojkumar Babulal Maurya (34) of Laxman Nagar,Thergaon.

The complaint was lodged by Sharmistha Das (38),a resident of Dwarkadhish Garden in Pimple Saudagar.

Police said Das met Maurya through her relative. He allegedly assured to solve her problems by performing rituals and demanded gold and money in return.

She gave her gold ornaments and cash to the tune of Rs 8.5 lakh between February and March 2013.

Maurya performed rituals,but it did not work out for Das. She then filed a complaint with the Sangvi police station against Maurya. Acting on a tip-off,police arrested Maurya from Thergaon.
