A gang of autorickshaw drivers, who allegedly looted valuables from over 50 people in the last one year, has been busted by the Cyber Crime Cell of Pune Police. One gang member, identified as Intejar Ahmed Ansari (32), a resident of Bhagatsinghnagar slums in Goregaon (West), has been arrested, while his five accomplices are being pursued. According to the police, after executing several thefts in Pune, the gang was currently staying in Mumbai and used a peculiar modus operandi for the thefts. What what else is in the news “One of the accused used to pick up passengers from the Pune railway station. While on the way, he used to pretend that there was a problem in the autorickshaw. Soon, other gang members would arrive in a cab and the autorickshaw driver would request the passengers to take the cab saying he knows the driver. They would keep the passengers’ bags at the back and make them sit in the front. While travelling, they would steal the valuables. We have learnt that in some cases, they had assaulted the passengers too,” said Inspector (Cyber Crime Cell) Sunil Pawar. P Purnandam, a native of Tamil Nadu, had registered a complaint with Pune Police. On September 7, he had lost Rs 98,000 to the gang which used the same method to target him.
