The air-traffic disturbance caused by dense fog engulfing New Delhi has caused as many as nine flights to get cancelled at Pune Airport on Thursday. As per information provided by the Airports Authority of India (AAI), four flights that were scheduled to depart from Pune Airport for Delhi were cancelled till 12 noon. The airport administration said that many flights coming from Delhi have also been delayed, causing inconvenience to the flyers. The cascading effect also affected departures to other airports, including those connecting Pune with Hyderabad, Goa, Lucknow and Amritsar. For the last couple of days, dense fog has engulfed the national capital and the Air Quality Index (AQI) in the city has dipped to "severe", as per data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). The Met department, on its part, has issued an orange alert in the city after the visibility dipped to around 50 metre. The low visibility has affected flight and railway operations with over a 100 flights to Delhi from across the country getting cancelled on Wednesday. The number is expected to be higher on Thursday. Pune Airport Director Santosh Dhoke said that nine flights operated by various airlines have been cancelled from Wednesday midnight till Thursday noon owing to the Delhi situation. The flights that were cancelled are SpiceJet’s SG0948 (Pune to Hyderabad) and SG0937 (Pune to Delhi); Indigo’s 6E0721 (Pune to Amritsar), 6E0159 (Pune to Goa), 6E0672 (Pune to Goa), 6E2472 (Pune to Delhi) and 6E0338 (Pune to Lucknow); Air India’s AI0852 (Pune to Delhi) and Vistara’s UK0972 (Pune to Delhi).
