Five senior citizens were among nine honoured for their outstanding contribution to various fields,at a function organised by DM More Foundation at Kasarwadi Friday. Among the awardees is 60-year-old Rambhau Lande who had lost both legs in an accident.
Former mayor Yogesh Behl,deputy mayor Raju Misal and Aam Aadmi Partys Maruti Bhapkar were present among those who felicitated the awardees with a shawl,trophy and a bouquet. Local corporators Kiran Mote and Asha Shendge were also present.
Praising the contribution of the senior citizens and others,former mayor Behl said,Each one of us has a responsibility towards the society. Every act of ours contributes to progress and peace. If we understand our responsibilities and perform our duties diligently,there is no reason why our society cant progress, he said. Behl said some of the awardees like Rambhau Lande personified grit. Despite losing both legs and suffering other personal tragedies,Rambhau has set an example for society of living life in the best possible manner.
Rambhau Lande said,I believe in doing by best for people around me. Thats the way I have lived my life will certainly inspire the younger generation, he said.
In his speech,Maruti Bhapkar senior citizens were the real goldmine of the society.
A society which ignores its seniors will struggle to find joy and happiness. We all should do our bit to keep the elders happy in the twilight of their lives, he said. Sanjeevani Pandey hosted the event.
