Fire at girls’ hostel in Pune’s Tarachand Hospital, no casualties
The control room of the Pune Fire Brigade received a call about the hostel at 8.42 am.

A fire was reported at the premises of a girls’ hostel in Tarachand Hospital in the Rasta Peth area of Pune city on Friday morning. No casualties were reported in the incident.
The control room of the Pune Fire Brigade received a call about the hostel at 8.42 am. Soon, a team of fire brigade led by fire officer Pankaj Jagtap rushed to the spot with fire tenders and water tankers.
The fire was observed in a room on the first floor of the three-storeyed building of the hostel.
Firemen shifted the girls in the hostel to a safe place with the help of the hospital and hostel staff. They extinguished the fire within 10 minutes.
While nobody was injured in the incident, some educational material and furniture inside the hostel was gutted.
Fire officials said prima facie it was known that a heater in the hostel room caused the fire.
Chief Fire Officer Devendra Potphode said soon after observing the fire, the staff at the hostel and hospital tried to control the situation using 19 fire extinguisher cylinders installed at the premises.
“We appreciate the fire fighting work done by the staffers at the place. Pune Fire Brigade has been appealing to the schools, colleges, hostels, shopping malls and other establishments to take such precautionary measures to control fire and emergency situations,” said Potphode.
