Pune cop lands in trouble as old video of son firing leads to FIR

The accused were identified as policeman Ramesh Kekan, attached to the Pune rural police, and his two sons Parth and Atharva.

Assistant police inspector Vikram Salunkhe lodged the FIR in this case at the Walchandnagar police station of Pune rural police.

As per the FIR, Ramesh Kekan, a resident Wakad.  is a police havaldar at Pune rural police headquarters.

The incident happened in 2021 when Kekan  had gone to meet his father-in-law at Kalas village in Indapur.

Kekan allegedly gave his revolver to his son Parth illegally, causing violation of his gun licence rules and conditions.

According to the FIR, Parth was not having any knowledge of handling the revolver. But still he took the revolver and fired a bullet in the air, causing a threat to the life of local residents.

A video of the firing incident was recorded on Parth’s cell phone by his brother. The video was circulated on social media by Parth, police said.

Police have booked Ramesh Kekan and his two sons in this case under sections 336, 109,114 of the Indian Penal Code and sections of the Arms Act.

Police sub inspector V H Teklikar is investigating the case.
