FDA Commissioner Mahesh Zagade on Wednesday said that Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) will inspect the stock of Schedule K drugs kept by doctors from April 1.
Doctors prescribe certain medicines to patient from their own stock. These medicines come under Schedule K drugs, said Zagade.
The doctors will have to maintain a register listing the purchased drugs and the companies from where they are being procured. They will also have to mention the batch number of the purchased medicine, amount of medicine purchased and the details of medicine given to patients, said Zagade.
Zagade said the new law gives FDA power to inspect sSchedule K drugs. Apart from this, pharmacists under whose name a medical shop has been registered, should be physically present at the shop till the time the shop functions, said Zagade.
Indian Medical Associations vice-president Dr Maya Tulpule said,We welcome FDAs move to inspect Schedule K drugs. And we also pledge that any doctor who does not comply with FDA rules will not be supported by the association.
