FC Pune City to field team for AIFF U-15 tourney

The talent scouting programmes, which would be conducted on March 20 and 26, aims at creating talent pools in the form of U-10, U-12 and U-14 age groups for boys and girls

Living up to its promise of promoting football in a structured manner, the Rajesh Wadhawan Group and Hrithik Roshan co-owned Indian Super League (ISL) team FC Pune City would have its Under-15 team participating in the All India Football Federation (AIFF)-backed Under-15 I-League in the coming year.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the talent scouting programme at the FC Pune City’s development centre, José Hevia (UEFA pro-coach), Head of Grassroots Development, said that he was glad with the progress of players from FC Pune City grassroots programmes initiated last year.

“We have created a comprehensive football grassroots development plan to build a strong football framework within Pune region. The club has clear intent in providing professional opportunities to learn and participate in the sport as well as nurture talent by providing progression platforms to talented footballers,” Hevia added.

The Spaniard, who has been in charge of FC Pune City’s grassroots development programmes said that nearly 10 players who joined the programme last year participated in the Under-15 and Under-17 leagues representing other clubs in the city. “We had found very good players in the last selection and we are glad about their level too,” Hevia further said.

“We are focusing on the technical skills and attitude of the players and their commitment towards the sport. We have had a lot of learning from last year and we would be more experienced with the 2016 edition. We would also be launching an FC Pune City girls’ programme and conduct an exclusive workshop for girls on March 26,” added first team assistant coach Steve Charles.
