Fake CBI officer arrested for demanding Rs 12 lakh from owner of Pimpri Chinchwad company

Pimpri Chinchwad police have arrested a man who allegedly posed as a CBI officer and tried to extort Rs 12 lakh from the owner of a company in Bavdhan.

Suhas Ashokrao Wankhade, 40, of the Safetechno Services Company, lodged the first information report (FIR) in this case at the Bavdhan police station in the early hours of Friday.

The police have identified the accused as Vinod Annapa Thorvat, 39, of Gadhinglaj in Kolhapur. As per the FIR, Wankhade is one of the partners who run the Safetechno Services Company located on the NDA – Pashan road in Bavdhan.

On October 22, he had parked his car and was going to his office around 9.30 am when the accused approached him by posing as a CBI officer. The accused made the complainant speak over mobile with another person claiming to be an officer at the CBI’s “special unit in Mumbai”.

This person said they have received a file against the complainant’s company and demanded Rs 15 lakh to close it. The complainant said he spoke to his partners about it. The accused then left the spot saying he would come back again in the evening.

Accordingly, he came near the complainant’s office around 5.15 pm and called him down. The complainant went to meet him with his partner. The accused showed them his identity card bearing his photograph and a logo of the CBI. He further negotiated with the complainant and his partner and asked them to give him Rs 12 lakh on October 24 to close the file against them. The complainant then informed the Pimpri Chinchwad police as his company was not into any wrong practices.

The police then booked him under Sections 204 (personating public servant), 308(3) (extortion), 336(3)(4) (forgery), 338 (forgery of important documents), 340 3(5) (fake document) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Further investigation is on, the police said.
