Pune engineering student booked for assaulting roommate who refused to appear as dummy candidate

A 19-year-old engineering student was booked Saturday for allegedly assaulting his room partner using a belt when the latter refused to appear as a dummy candidate in his place for an examination, police said Sunday.

An FIR in this case was registered at the Kondhwa police station on Saturday based on the complaint by the accused’s room partner, aged 20 years.

As per the press release issued Sunday, the accused and complainant are both first year students of engineering at a Pune college.

Police said the accused allegedly asked the complainant to appear as a dummy in his place for the “engineering graphics” examination on January 12. But the complainant refused.

At 5.30 pm on that day, the accused allegedly assaulted the complainant multiple times using a belt, leaving him injured.

The accused student was booked under sections 323, 324, 506 of the Indian Penal Code. Police Sub-Inspector Balaji Digole is investigating the case.
