Train traffic between Pune and Mumbai has been disrupted since Wednesday morning due to a failure of the engine of a goods train, officials said. As the train remained immobile for one-and-a-half hours, several other trains coming to Pune from Mumbai got delayed by over an hour.
As per officials with the Pune Railway Division, the locomotive of the goods train coming towards Pune from Mumbai failed near Shelarwadi at 9.18 am. The stranded train finally started moving at 10.53 am when the officials managed to arrange another locomotive from Ghorpadi yard.
Among the trains that have been affected are Mumbai-Pune Intercity (delayed by 88 minutes), Talegaon-Pune local (69 minutes), Mumbai-Vishakhapattanam (53 minutes), Mumbai-Pune Deccan Express (17 minutes), and Lonavala-Pune local (21 minutes). The trains were detained at Talegaon and Kamshet.
“The stranded goods train was moved after the locomotive from Ghorpadi reached the spot. The train traffic is slowly returning to normal,” said a senior officer with Pune Division.
Activist Harsha Shah said that the unexpected long delays caused inconvenience to the passengers. “Fortunately, Indrayani Express had crossed the spot before the incident and reached the Pune Railway Station on time,” she said.
