Power supply to many areas of Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad was affected on Saturday after the the 400kV transmission lines operated by the Power Grid Corporation of India developed snags from Shikrapur to Talegoan.
A press statement by the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSDCL) stated that work was underway on war footing to restore the connections.
Since morning 9 am, this technical breakdown saw consumers from Pimpri Chinchwad, Urse, Theur, Perne and other parts losing power supply. This happened as the high power transmission lines snapped at around 9.03 am, leading to suspension of the 355 MW electricity supply in these areas. Areas in Pimpri, Rahatani, Pimple Saudagar, Chinchwadgaon, Kalewadi, Walhekarwadi, Dehu Road, Dehugaon, Kharadi, Old Sangvi, Thitewadi, Theur, Perne and others, also saw the power supply getting affected.
Currently, the Power Grid Corporation is working on war footing to restore the transmission lines. Till then, MSEDCL and the Maharashtra Electricity Generation Corporation Limited (MEGCL) ensured that power supply to their consumers was not hampered. However, as the high-tension transmission lines require at least 7-8 hours to be rectified, the power corporation said they would have to compulsorily opt for load shedding in a cyclic manner in many areas.
