The Pune city police have issued a separate set of directives for Ganesh mandals conducting immersion processions on Tilak Road in response to longstanding concerns over delays along the route. The guidelines were finalised following a coordination meeting with office bearers of the respective mandals.

According to police, over 210 Ganesh mandals take out immersion processions via Tilak Road. Due to the longstanding concerns over the delays, including the immersion processions on this route, a coordination meeting was held on August 29 that was attended by the top brass of the Pune city police, officials from all local police stations and office bearers of mandals who have formed a group — Tilak Road Visarjan Niyojan Samiti.

As per the directives, each Ganesh mandal has to inform Swargate police station the time at which they will reach Jedhe Chowk or Puram Chowk. The instruction issued by the police to individual mandals will have to be followed. Some mandals have in the past brought their tractors or carts at Tilak Road or Bajirao Road the previous night. This obstructs the way of other mandals. Because of this, when the procession starts around 7am, no mandal will be allowed to remain stationary at one location.

The tractor driver and sound system operator with each mandal will have to be briefed on the directive by office bearers of respective mandals. Police have decided to deploy a tractor mechanic at Puram Chowk in case any tractor faces technical issues. Mandals have also been urged to keep an extra tractor on stand-by if needed. There will be no distance between the procession of two mandals while moving and mandals will not be allowed to break the decided sequence.

On the 12 traffic junctions on the Tilak Road between Alka Talkies Chowk and Jedhe Chowk, 12 watch towers and police teams have been deployed. Each Ganesh mandal will be allowed to only have either dhol tasha troupe or sound system, not both. No mandal will allow their dhol tasha troupes to play in stationary mode, they will have to keep moving. Roadside food stalls will be closed when the procession is on. Help booths have been set up at Jedhe Chowk and Puram Chowk for the convenience of mandals.
