VCs transfer to IIT-Delhi in limbo

Even as the media in the city has been speculating about vice chancellor,Raghunath Shevgaonkar going as a director to the Indian Institute of Technology,Delhi,the VC himself clarified that he has not got any confirmation from the institute yet. After senior senate member,Gajanan Ekbote dropped a hint at an event about the VC going to IIT-D,Shevgaonkar said that he had been selected but no final confirmation had yet come from the institute.

DES to launch Institute of Film and Television

The Deccan Education Society (DES) is all set to launch its Institute of Film and Television (IFT) on August 5. Actor Vikram Gokhale will inaugurate the institute. Prominent personalities like national award winning actor Upendra Limaye,Smita Talwalkar,Renuka Shahane,Sonali Kulkarni and Abhiram Bhadkamkar will participate in a debate on Media today and its new challenges.

Shikshan Sanstha threatens protest

Pointing that the state government has not released a sum of Rs 792 crore as grant other than the wages,the Rajya Shikshan Sanstha Mahamandal threatened to go on protest. They also demanded an increase in the fees for standard XI in the unaided colleges. The state has 96,000 private government-aided institutions. These institutions received funds besides the grants for wages. These funds would be utilised by the institutions for repair work,rents,electricity bills and other such expenses. This additional fund was however stopped by the state government about 12 years ago,as a result of which the institutions are bearing the burden of these expenses.
