Bharati Vidyapeeth launches school of photography

Bharati Vidyapeeth launched its School of Photography on its Dhankawdi campus. It was inaugurated by veteran actor and photographer Boman Irani on Monday. During the one-year diploma course,students will be taught the fundamentals of photography,and then they will move on to advanced photography,followed by a specialisation of their choice. Admissions for the course are on and the course will begin on June 15.

Now,Puneites to get designing lessons in Marathi too

INIFD Deccan introduced courses in fashion,textile,interior and jewellery designing in Marathi from the academic session starting on June 6. “Most of the institutes teach these courses in English. But there are a lot of people who are very creative but cannot communicate in English. So this course aims at providing an equal opportunity to them,” said Amit Agarwal,centre director,INIFD.

Five students get high school scolarship

Five students of Muktangan English School bagged high school scholarship in an examination conducted in March 2011. The winners include Abhishek Kulkarni,Atharva Seth,Aditi Kumthekar,Aneesh Namjoshi,Niminsh Nazirkar. A total of 79 students had appeared for the scholarship examination,of which 74 have passed. The school conducts special classes for students appearing for the scholarship.

COEP alumnus gets Ph.D from Cambridge University

Shivnand Mohan Pingale of the mechanical engineering department of the 2003 batch of College of Engineering,Pune,has been awarded a Ph.D by the Cambridge University for his work on static and dynamic response of metallic sandwich structures. He completed his Ph.D under the guidance of Norman Flake and Vikram Deshpande. Earlier,he got a full scholarship from the British Scientific Council (EPSRC). While pursuing his Ph.D,he also guided a few engineering students at Cambridge.

NXP Semiconductors launches Automotive centre of excellence

NXP Semiconductors has launched the Automotive Centre of Excellence (ACE) in Pune in association with the International Institute of Information Technology (I 2 IT). Located at I 2 IT Pune Campus,this Centre of Excellence will provide unique infrastructure and collaboration of the industry and academia. The centre will foster innovation in the field of automotive electronics and would provide students,faculties,automotive original equipment manufacturers (OEMs),automotive sub-assembly suppliers and industries in the region with expert technical support for product development and research activities to address market demands.
