The district court on Thursday lifted the stay on construction of a riverside road along the banks of Mutha. “The district court has ruled out the contention of the petitioner that the PMC cannot construct it along the Mutha as per section 205 of BPMC Act as it was not mentioned in the development plan,” said PMC legal advisor Manjusha Idhate. She said the court has given time to petitioner Parisar,an environment organisation,to challenge the order in the higher court.
In 2002,Parisar had opposed the PMC plan to construct a road along the Mutha river on grounds that the PMC does not have the right to construct road as per section 205 of BPMC Act. It has also pointed out that the road will disrupt ecological balance in the area.
PMC Standing Committee chairman Ganesh Bidkar said he would urge the civic administration to complete the road that will connect Mhatre bridge to Sambhaji bridge and Sambhaji bridge to Shivaji bridge. This will further be connected to a proposed road from Warje to Mhatre bridge and Shivaji bridge to Kharadi. The road is expected to reduce traffic jams on Karve road.
