(Source: PTI Photo)With a high alert being sounded across major cities in India following a blast outside Red Fort Metro Station in New Delhi, the Pune city police have also been put on alert and have intensified security checks at key locations and sensitive installations across the city.
At least eight people have been killed and several others injured in the explosion in New Delhi, following which a high alert has been sounded in the Capital and across major cities across India. Saying that a thorough investigation will take place into the explosion, Home Minister Amit Shah said in Delhi that “no possibility was being ruled out”.
A senior officer in Pune City police said, “After the incident in Delhi, the Maharashtra police headquarters has sounded alert for key formations in the state. Accordingly, the Pune City police are on alert. Security has been beefed up at sensitive locations and installations in the city. Security checks have been intensified and there is heightened vigilance at key establishments including Pune International Airport, Pune railway station, Metro stations, bus terminals in the city among others.”

Another officer said, “Zonal Deputy Commissioners and in-charge inspectors of each police station have passed down the directions on heightened vigilance and increased patrolling. Some hotels and commercial establishments, including malls, are also being checked.” Officials from neighbouring jurisdictions of Pimpri Chinchwad and Pune rural police said they were also on alert and were keeping heightened vigilance at key establishments.
Officials said individual units have been instructed to remain on alert round-the-clock and deploy additional personnel at major junctions, crowded markets, and transport hubs, if needed. The Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) and Quick Response Teams (QRTs) have been kept on standby, while patrolling in areas with heavy footfall has been increased.
