Dahake’s Shyamchi Aai among competitors for Best Marathi Picture at PIFF

An international jury will judge the entries and the Maharashtra government has announced a prize of Rs 5 lakh fo the best film.

It was further announced that Vikas Kharge, Avinash Dhakne, Jhanu Barua, Shai Goldman, Manoj Bajpayee will hold master classes on various topics during this festival.

Sujay Sunil Dahake’s adaptation of the autobiography of social worker and freedom fighter Sane Guru, Shyamchi Aai will be among the seven competitors for the Best Marathi Picture award at the 22nd Pune International Film Festival (PIFF) to be held from January 18 to 25.

The others six Marathi films to be screened at the festival are Naal Bhag 2 by Sudhakar Reddy Yakkanti, Valli by Manoj Shinde, Sthal (A Match) by Jayant Digambar Somalkar, Bhehra (Deaf) by Shrikant Prabhakar, Chabila by Anil Amrut Bhalerao and Gypsy by Shashi Chandrakant Khandare.

“The 22nd Pune International Film Festival (PIFF) has started up its ‘Marathi film competition’ with seven film screenings and will be awarded the Sant Tukaram award,” said Jabbar Patel, director of PIFF.

Other awards like Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Screenplay, and Best Cinematographer will be given by the Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Chitrapat Mahamandal, each with a Rs 25,000 prize.

The online registration process for the festival had started from December 23 on their official website and spot registration process at theaters will start from January 5 with a Rs 800 registration fee for the entire festival.
