Cycling home,schoolgirl run over by truck

A schoolgirl was crushed to death while another was seriously injured when a truck hit their bicycles at Indrayani Nagar on Wednesday evening. The two were returning from school.

Vidya Dashrat Raut (14),a resident of Landewadi,died on the spot while her friend Snehal Bharat Gaikwad (14),of Rajyog Society,Indrayani Nagar, has been admitted to a private hospital. The police have arrested the truck driver — Shivaji Ramhari Pawar (49),a resident of Shiv Shambhu Colony.

Police said Snehal and Vidya,class VIII students of Swami Samarth Vidyamandir, had left school around 5.30 pm and the truck was going towards Bhosari.

Vidya was taken to Yeshwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital,where she was declared dead. The body has been sent for autopsy. The atmosphere was tense in the area after the incident with residents demanding a ban on plying of trucks in the area.
