Cop celebrates birthday with criminals, 4 policemen suspended

A policeman allegedly celebrated his birthday with history sheeters in the middle of the road in front of Sangvi police station in Pimpri Chinchwad on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday.

Vinod Kumar Choubey, Commissioner of Pimpri Chinchwad police, has suspended four cops who took part in the birthday celebration. These include the one celebrating his birthday Pravin Patil, Vivek Gaikwad, Suhas Dangre and Vijay More.

Choubey has also transferred senior police inspector Mahesh Bansode of Sangvi police station. Bansode has been attached to the police control room.

Sources said that at least four criminals on police record gathered near the Sangvi police station for celebrating the birthday of policeman Pravin Patil on Wednesday night.

They kept a table in the middle of the road near the police station. A cake was placed on the table. The moment the clock struck 12 am, Patil allegedly cut the cake and the others present at the spot burst several firecrackers. Along with Patil, his colleagues Gaikwad, Dangre and More, were also allegedly present at the spot.

A video of the birthday celebration was recorded using a drone. As the video later went viral on social media, the police commissioner took action against the cops for dereliction of duty.
