Two police instructors who were arrested for the abetment to suicide of a constable, were remanded in magisterial custody for 14 days and sent to Yerawada jail and an administrative inquiry has been ordered in this case.

Police constable Devidas Suryabhan Kunjarwad (24),who was recruited in May,allegedly committed suicide on Tuesday by hanging himself to a tree at the Pune police headquarters at Shivajinagar on Tuesday. Police said a note written by Kunjarwad stated that he resorted to the extreme step as he was harassed by his instructors — Nana Salunkhe and sub-inspector Ramchandra Ghule — who were allegedly demanding money from him.

One of Kunjarwad’s brothers,Shivshankar (26) who is a police constable with Swargate traffic division, had lodged a complaint of abetment to suicide against Salunkhe and Ghule. When contacted DCP (Headquarters) Shirish Sardeshpande said,“We believe the incident was an isolated case and no such practices are on during training. We have ordered an inquiry into the case. I will be able comment once I get the reports.”
