Constable held for taking bribe

Lokhande allegedly kept the car documents with himself and demanded a bribe of Rs 5,000 for returning the same. Gawde lodged a complaint with ACB on August 14

A police head constable was arrested by the State anti-corruption bureau (ACB) on Friday night for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 from a man whose car had met with an accident.

Constable Arun Lokhande (50),posted with Vishrambaug police station allegedly accepted the bribe for returning the car’s documents to the owner,Sudhakar Gawde. Gawde had lodged a complaint against Lokhande with the ACB on August 14.

ACB officials said on August 3,Gawde’s car was seized by police after it hit a motorcycle near Sevasadan chowk. Police later returned the car,Lokhande allegedly kept the car documents with himself and demanded a bribe of Rs 5,000 for returning the same.

ACB sleuths laid a trap at Mandai police chowky on Friday and caught Lokhande red handed.
