After a dispute,a male police constable and his six family members allegedly thrashed a woman police constable with bamboo sticks and forced her to consume poisonous liquid around 1.45 pm on September 18.
Constable Lalita Kailas Jagdale (33),attached with the Kothrud police station,had lodged a complaint at Warje police station. The Warje police have accordingly booked seven persons,including constable Damodar Mahukar Barate (49),his wife Sangita Barate (45),sons Ketan Damodar Barate (25),Amit Damodar Barate (21),daughter-in-law Kalyani Ketan Barate,son-in-law Dnyaneshwar Pratap Charwad (28) and his wife Shweta Charwad (22).
Police said Barate is attached with the Kothrud police station. Police said there was some dispute between Barate and complainant Jagdale.
Police said Barate allegedly called Jagdale at his house in Warje Gaon on September 18. Around 1.45 pm,when Lalita reached his house,Damodar and his family members allegedly attacked her with bamboo sticks. They also allegedly punched and kicked her and then forcibly poured poison in her mouth. Lalita was admitted to a private hospital for treatment. She lodged the first information report on September 19. She is stated to be out of danger.
The Warje police have booked the suspects under Section 14,147,149,323,324,341,504,506 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). When contacted,deputy commissioner of police (Zone I) Dnyaneshwar Phadtare told media persons that the incident was a fallout of some dispute between the two police constables.
Senior inspector Sunil Darekar of Warje police station said details of the dispute between the two constables were yet to be known. Investigation is on to know the dispute between the two parties. So far we have not arrested anyone. Police sub-inspector Y A Nikam is investigating the case.
