Class I jobs beckon CWG medal winners

Soon,the district collectorate might see some of the Commonwealth Games medallists from the state in a tehsildar post or as a Block Development Officer or taking charge as district sports authority.

Soon,the district collectorate might see some of the Commonwealth Games (CWG) medallists from the state in a tehsildar post or as a Block Development Officer (BDO) or taking charge as district sports authority,with the state government’s announcement that Class I government jobs would be given to all seven sportspersons from the state who bagged medals. The medal break-up comes to four gold,four silver and three bronze.

“We will accommodate the sportspersons according to their area of interest. They would be given a class one post in the rank of tehsildar,BDO or even as officer in state excise department or handle the district sports department,” said resident deputy collector Anil Pawar.

A senior officer from the sports department at the Mantralaya said,“The basic salary for a class I post is Rs 15,600 and they could also be appointed for super class one post,” the officer said. Another officer said first preference would be given to fill up openings in the district sports department. The sportspersons will also get a cash price ranging from Rs 5-10 lakh. The seven medal winners from the state are Rahi Sarnobat from Kolhapur,Anisa Syed from Pune,Narsinh Yadav from Mumbai,Tejaswini Sawant,Madhurika Patkar from Thane,Suma Shirur from Raigad and Kavita Raut of Nashik.
