The NCP has put all its senior local leaders on the executive committee of its city unit, but not named anyone to lead the party. To put a cap on dissent, all former mayors have been made special invitees to the committee.
The previous committee performed well during its tenure. We hope that the new committee that includes many new names will continue this performance in the near future, city NCP chief Vandana Chavan said.
Asked if she would continue to be the chief of the party unit,Chavan said a decision would be made in the next few days. NCP leaders said that the break from the tradition of allowing the new party unit chief to announce the executive committee could indicate that the incumbent president would continue.
With an eye on the assembly and Lok Sabha elections scheduled for 2014,the NCP has appointed leaders to represent assembly constitutencies in the state unit and accommodated all senior members, including Prakash Mhaske,Ankush Kakade,Baburao Chandere,Jaideo Gaikwad,Kamla Dhole Patil,Mohansingh Rajpal,Rajlaxmi Bhosale,Nilesh Magar,M V Akolkar,Subhash Jagtap,Ravindra Malvadkar,Anna Thorat,Harshada Wanjale,Dilip Barate,Appa Renuse,Krishnakant Kudale,Anil Bhosale and Nilesh Nikam besides Vandana Chavan.
