Though Railway Minister Mamata Banerjees populist railway budget, has received positive response, activists and commuters feel that the budget lacks emphasis on passengers security. Many say it was okay even if the fares were hiked,if the revenue was used to step up security at stations.
Overall the budget is good. However,I was expecting something more in terms of security of passengers, especially after the bomb blast in Pune. People,in fact,do not mind a marginal rise in fares, but the focus should be on the security,as there should be no compromise on that front. It is virtually difficult to keep a thorough check on the security at the railway stations.

Passengers would have accepted a marginal rise in fare, had the budget proposed to step up security measures. The extra revenue that could have come through the hike could be used on security. Even the Railway Protection Force personnel do not have proper security equipment.
