‘Brain dead’ pregnant woman delivers baby after accident, family donates her organs
Initially treated at a local hospital for traumatic brain injuries, doctors also performed a C Section and delivered a baby boy.

A 25- year- old woman in her ninth month of pregnancy tragically suffered severe brain injuries in an accident at Parner, Ahmednagar on Jan 20.

The patient was later transferred to DPU Super Specialty Hospital via an advanced life support ambulance.
However she was declared brain dead and her grieving husband and father consented to donate her organs and as per guidelines both kidneys and a liver were harvested and donated.
Aarti Gokhale, Central coordinator, Zonal Transplant Coordination Centre said that the woman was travelling pillion with her husband on a scooter when they met with an accident.
DPU Super Specialty Hospital successfully performed a kidney, liver and corneal transplant from the 25-year-old brain-dead woman.
Despite their immense grief, the patient’s family demonstrated incredible courage and compassion by making the selfless decision to donate her organs, giving others a second chance at life.,Dr. (Mrs.) Bhagyashree Patil, Pro-Chancellor of Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth, Pimpri, Pune (Deemed to be University) said.
As per guidelines, one kidney, a liver and two corneas were allocated to recipients in need.
The other kidney was allocated to the common pool through the Zonal Transplant Coordination Centre (ZTCC), Pune.
