The Bombay High Court on Monday directed the Pune divisional commissioner and other authorities to address the public’s concerns regarding the implementation of the Pune Metro and to take appropriate action within two months.

In a public interest litigation, petitioners Qaneez Sukhrani, Ashutosh Mashruwala and Umesh Magar accused the authorities implementing the Pune Metro project, mainly Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha Metro), of poor planning, poor vision and non-application of mind in the construction of the Ramwadi and Yerwada Metro stations on Nagar Road.

“We highlighted the chaotic and non-holistic construction of Metro stations in and around Pune city and the traffic bottlenecks created due to the poor planning of the stations. We also pointed out the failure of the authorities to plan parking bays for the Metro Stations on Nagar Road,” said Sukhrani, adding that they have been raising the issues in their various representations since 2022.

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) submitted that the construction was in a very advanced stage and likely to be completed soon. To entertain any complaint at this juncture would be completely uncalled for, but the bench of Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya and Justice Amit Borkar directed the Pune Divisional Commissioner to address the grievances without delay. Pune Metro officials said they were already working on the issue and would try to resolve the grievances raised by citizens.
