A former BJP Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) corporator has taken over and is running the community centre in Hasanganj police station area of the city.
While the LMC officials say they will take action for the possession of the community centre, the corporator says he was managing it because LMC had neglected its upkeep.
Ram Charan park in Mankameshwar ward was converted into the community centre in 2009 after BJP corporator Ranjit Singhs initiative. The residents say the construction of the community centre by destroying an open park had not only deprived the children of the locality of their playground but the centre also becomes a nuisance with the use of loudspeakers in the night during parties held there.
MP Singh,a local resident, said no one from the locality was consulted by the corporator before converting the park into a community centre. The parties at the community centre often lead to brawls as residents object to the use of loudspeakers at night,he said.
On being contacted,Singh said he was maintaining the upkeep of centre because LMC was not managing it. As the LMC did not pay heed to maintenance of the centre, people started throwing garbage there, and to keep it running he,along with a few persons from the locality, started to manage its functioning,he said.
Singh said only an amount of Rs 600 is charged from the people who book the centre and the money is spent on its sanitation and security.
About loudspeakers being played in the night,he said that the loudspeakers have already been banned for one month after complaints from the residents.
Additional City Commissioner Pratap Singh Bhadauria, however, said that the issue of community centre being run by corporator had come to his notice and he will soon take action to get the management of centre from him.
