The tussle within the NCP and NCP (SP) is not only for Baramati but for Pune city as well where the two parties will take on each other in the two Assembly constituencies of Vadgaonsheri and Hadapsar.

The two Assembly constituencies are presently represented by Sunil Tingre and Chetan Tule of the NCP, who have sided by party chief and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar after the split. The party has decided to repeat their candidature and fielded them in the elections with the hope of retaining the seats.

“The party is contesting only two seats in the city as per the seat sharing arrangement in Mahayuti where it has been decided to retain the seat currently represented by the two leaers to the respective party,” an NCP leader said.

The NCP (SP) has taken up the challenge to defeat the NCP candidates. The NCP (SP) has fielded former legislator Bapu Pathare, who joined the party from the BJP, against Tingre. Pathare was NCP legislator in 2009 to 2014 but later joined the BJP. “The rival candidate is misusing power and applying all tactics in the Assembly election. We will teach him a lesson,” said Pathare.

In Hadapsar, the fight is between former city NCP chief and sitting legislator Chetan Tupe, and city NCP (SP) chief and former mayor Prashant Jagtap. “The NCP (SP) got a lead in Hadapsar Assembly seat during the Lok Sabha elections, which indicated public mood to change the legislator,” said Jagtap.

The NCP (SP) has also fielded candidates in two other seats — Sachin Dodke in Khadakwasla and Ashwini Kadam in Parvati Assembly seats.
