Disappointed over the party’s decision to withdraw the BJP-Shiv Sena candidate from the legislative council polls

Disappointed over the party’s decision to withdraw the BJP-Shiv Sena candidate from the legislative council polls,BJP MLA Girish Bapat has tendered his resignation as the BJP city unit president and member of the party’s state executive body.

After his resignation,NCP candidate Anil Bhosale was elected unopposed as an MLC. Bapat tendered his resignation on Saturday to BJP state president Sudhir Mungantiwar immediately after the withdrawal of party’s candidate Chandrashekhar Bhosale.

NCP-Congress candidate Anil Bhosale,NCP rebel from Alandi Dnyaneshwar Bhosale and Chandrashekhar from BJP-Shiv Sena had filed nomination papers for the MLC polls. The scrutiny of the forms was done on Thursday, while the last date for the withdrawal of nominations was Saturday.

“The party’s decision of making the BJP-Sen candidate withdraw his name from the polls was wrong. I am against that decision. I was of the view that our candidate should have contested the election. We had even started our preparations with the hope that our candidate will fight,” Bapat said.

Everybody was hoping to have a triangular contest for the legislative council election from Pune for local authorities constituency (LAC).

“With the withdrawal of the other two candidates on Saturday,I got elected unopposed as an MLC. I even got the certificate for it,” Bhosale said.
