Eid-ul-Adha, popularly known in India as Bakrid, will be celebrated on Thursday nationwide. In Pune, special Eid prayers will be offered in mosques, and Eidgah grounds across the city, and the main congregation will be held at the Eidgah at Golibar Maidan.
The Pune city police’s traffic control branch has announced several road closures and diversions from 6 am until the Namaz offerings are over. Deputy Commissioner of Police Vijaykumar Magar issued the notification for traffic changes and diversions in this regard Tuesday night. These changes will not apply to on-duty government vehicles and vehicles involved in emergency services, including ambulances, fire tenders, police and military vehicles.
The Namaz prayer offering at Golibar Maidan will commence around 6 am. The road connecting Mammadevi Chowk, Golibar Maidan and Seven Loves Chowk will be closed to vehicular traffic.
The closed access road and alternate routes are as follows.
The road from Golibar Maidan to Swargate will be closed. The traffic on this route will be diverted to the left from Golibar Maidan and then via CDO Square, Giridhar Bhawan Chowk and Seven Loves Chowk.
Traffic from CDO Square to Golibar Chowk will be completely closed from 6 am to 11 am. Vehicles on this road will be diverted via Lullanagar, Khanya Maruti Chowk, Napier Road and further via Mammadevi Chowk or Wanawadi Bazar and then via Bhairoba Nala.
The approach road from Seven Loves Chowk to Golibar Maidan will remain closed during the Namaz offering. Vehicles will be routed via Salisbury Park, CDO Square and Bhairoba Nala.
Traffic coming from Solapur Road to Mammadevi Chowk will be diverted. This traffic will be routed from Mammadevi Chowk to Bishop’s School, Command Hospital and via Napier Chowk and CDO Square.
Traffic from Bhairoba Nala to Golibar Maidan will be diverted from Bhairoba Nala and will be routed via Prince of Wales Road, Bhairoba Nala, Wanawadi Bazar and Lulla Nagar.
The traffic of all heavy vehicles coming from Kondhwa— heavy goods and passenger vehicles, civic and state transport — will be diverted from morning hours until the Namaz prayers get over. These vehicles will be diverted via Gangadham Chowk.
Namaz prayers will be held across the city at various Eidgah Grounds. Respective local traffic divisions will enforce traffic changes in respective areas if required.
