Attract foreign students to India,says Ranjan Mathai

Indian Foreign Secretary Ranjan Mathai Saturday said by 2020,around seven million international students will be migrating from their countries for higher studies,and India will do well to attract them.

Indian Foreign Secretary Ranjan Mathai Saturday said by 2020,around seven million international students will be migrating from their countries for higher studies,and India will do well to attract them.

Speaking at the international students’ convocation ceremony of Symbiosis International Cultural and Educational Centre,he said several initiatives like Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) scholarships and Passport Seva Kendra have been implemented by the Centre to attract foreign students.

Mathai,whose term ends July,also stressed the importance of internationalisation and globalisation in the present context. Around 361 international students from 49 countries were conferred with degrees during the convocation ceremony.

Daniel Peter Othol,Ambassador of the Republic of South Sudan and Ebyan Mahamed Salah,Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Somalia were also present.
