Upset over wife’s WhatsApp chats, Army man in Pune tries to murder her; arrested

Police sub-inspector M D Warude said, “We have arrested the accused, who is an Indian Army soldier, as per the procedure. Further investigation is on.”

The police said the woman resides with her husband at the Aundh Military Camp in Pune. As per the FIR, she went to the Command Hospital for dental treatment in October this year. Her husband allegedly got angry due to her WhatsApp chats with a hospital staffer. According to the woman, he thrashed under the influence of alcohol and tried to hang her by the neck at their residence.

The injured woman was admitted to the Military Hospital in Khadki for treatment, the police said. While hospitalised, she gave her statement to the police on Thursday. The victim alleged that her father-in-law was also present at the time of the incident but he did not intervene to save her.
