Armed robbers tie up shop owner and customer,loot Rs 1.68 lakh

Burglars strike in Pimpri Camp and Kasarwadi,goods worth lakhs stolen

A gang of five armed men barged into a shop in Shukrawar Peth,threatened the owner,employees and customers at “gun point”,tied them up,gagged them with stick tape and then fled with Rs 1.68 lakh cash late Monday evening.

Shopowner Pravin Dongarchand Oswal (52),a resident of Mukund Nagar,has lodged a complaint at the Khadak police station.

Police said five persons carrying sharp weapons and two fake pistols rushed into the Uttam Metal Corporation,a shop located at 1642,Shukrawar Peth,around 9.45 pm. Four of them had their faces covered. They allegedly pointed weapons and pistols at Oswal,his niece,manager Surendra and a customer Balasaheb Salvi.

Threatening to attack them,the robbers further tied their hands and legs with a rope. They also put stick tapes on their mouths,broke the CCTV camera system inside the shop and took away money from the cash counter.

The victims informed the police after the robbers fled from the spot. Police Inspector Rajendra Savant is investigating the case.

In another incident,two unidentified persons broke into a mobile phone shop in Pimpri and decamped with valuables worth Rs 30 lakh in the early hours of Tuesday. Ratan Wadhwani,owner of Nokia Premier Partner at Pimpri Camp,lodged a complaint in this connection at the Pimpri police station.

The burglars allegedly entered into the shop by breaking open the window on the third floor of the same building. A CCTV camera installed at the spot has captured the images of the two suspects. The theft came to light when the shop was opened around 10.30 am. Police have initiated investigation based on the clues obtained from CCTV footage.

Also,goods worth Rs 83 lakh was stolen from Surprise Car Accessories,owned by Shripad Oswal of Chinchwad,at Kasarwadi in the early hours of Monday. Police said the burglars not only stole cash and other valuables but also damaged the CCTV camera system inside the shop. The theft came to light when the shop was opened on Monday morning.
