Ajit Pawar said the two new e-bus depots are a step towards accelerating the public transport system in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad and a way to combat the traffic problems in these areas.
He assured that PMPML will get 500 CNG buses from PMRDA, 500 more from Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporations, and 500 e-buses on a GCC basis, making it a total of 1,500 buses that will be made available to the public. He highlighted how a fund of Rs 230 crore required for the 500 CNG buses will be transferred from PMRD to PMPML.
The concept of ‘Green Maharashtra’ is being promoted via these two new e-bus depots. The two new e-bus depots will help reduce pollution and offer better services to the citizens. He stated that with the growing population in PCMC and Charoli, public transport in these areas must be strengthened to combat traffic problems. Lakhs of people come to Pune for jobs, education, and employment opportunities. Public transport through PMPML serves as an essential medium for such citizens. In his speech, he highlighted how the common man should be able to travel comfortably by having access to AC buses. Hence, the plan includes AC CNG buses.
PMPML chairperson and managing director Deepa Mudhol Munde presented an overview of the organisation’s status during the inaugural event.
“Efforts are being made to control the traffic congestion by empowering PMPML and Metro, considering the growing population of Pune and PCMC,” stated a press release.
