EVEN AS Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis looked on, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar on Thursday minced no words in slamming BJP MLA Mahesh Landge for not crediting him with the development of the industrial city.
The occasion was the ‘bhoomi pujan’ of the proposed building of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate in Chikhli area as well as the inauguration of the civic development works.
Addressing the gathering, MLA Landge was effusive in praise of Fadnavis, crediting him with sanctioning and ensuring implementation of a slew of big development projects. ”During his first tenure as chief minister and later on as well, Devendra Fadnavis has played a key role in development of Pimpri-Chinchwad,” Landge said. ”Pimpri-Chinchwad could carve out a name for itself when Devendra Fadnavis was at the helm. Pimpri-Chinchwad was in the shadow of Pune city but Devendra Fadnavis gave it a new identity,” Landge said. Landge also called for renaming Pimpri-Chinchwad as ‘Shivneri’ if the state government decides to come up with new districts.
While praising Fadnavis, Landge but did not mention the name of Ajit Pawar, who is widely considered as the ‘architect’ of the rapid development of Pimpri-Chinchwad in the last 20-25 years. The NCP first in association with Congress and then on its own has ruled Pimpri-Chinchwad for more than two decades.
When his turn came to speak, Ajit Pawar lambasted Landge. ”I don’t know why Mahesh Landge felt unhappy at taking my name when he mentioned about the development of Pimpri-Chinchwad. Entire Pimpri-Chinchwad knows it. I became your MP in 1992 and from 1992 to 2017, Pimpri-Chinchwad improved drastically. For nearly 25 years, I have been keeping a watch on the development of Pimpri-Chinchwad. You can ask the officials here how many times I enquire with them about the development works and how many meetings I hold,” he said.
Ajit Pawar reminded Mahesh Landge that they were both part of the Mahayuti government. ”We are all part of the Mahayuti government. If anyone of us does good work, we should praise him. Don’t be such a miser… I am big-hearted, I always give credit to those who work.”
