Deputy Chief Minister and Pune District Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar on Saturday urged elected representatives, citizens, civic officials, and voluntary organisations to work hand in hand with Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) to make the city top the upcoming Swachh Survekshan 2025-26.
Speaking at the launch of PCMC’s preparations for the survey at Professor Ramkrishna More auditorium in Chinchwad, Pawar said, “Pimpri Chinchwad is known as an industrial and labour-driven city, but now, we must also set a benchmark as a clean, green, and prosperous city. If citizens extend their full cooperation, our city can definitely be among the top three cities in India. The state government will provide all necessary support for this mission.”
The PCMC had earned national acclaim in Swachh Survekshan 2024-25, securing the seventh rank in India and first in Maharashtra, along with the prestigious 7-Star Garbage-Free City rating and Water+ certification. In recognition, individuals and groups who contributed to this achievement were felicitated at the event.
On the occasion, Pawar also unveiled a series of initiatives including the RRR Centre Dashboard, Zero Waste Project Dashboard, Swachh Toilet App, the official mascot and slogan for Swachh Survekshan 2025-26, and the logo of the Harit Setu (Green Bridge) project. A short film showcasing PCMC’s ongoing environmental and sanitation initiatives was screened.
The programme also included felicitation of sanitation workers, drivers, IEC volunteers and Swachhata Doots, representing the backbone of PCMC’s cleanliness drive.
In his welcome address, Municipal Commissioner Shekhar Singh said, “The real architects of our success in Swachh Survekshan 2024-25 are our sanitation workers and citizens. This recognition has energised us to pursue the ambition of achieving the number one spot nationally.”
The event was attended by Deputy Speaker of the State Assembly Anna Bansode, MP Shrirang Barne, MLCs Uma Khapre and Amit Gorkhe, member of the Scheduled Castes and Tribes Commission Adv Goraksh Lokhande, senior PCMC officials, former mayors and corporators, and representatives of civil society.
