The much-awaited annual Chandigarh Carnival is back and will be held from November 14-16 this year, as per officials with the administration.

The carnival, which draws thousands of people every year, has various attractions, including musical nights with performances by Bollywood singers at the open ground opposite the Government Museum and Art Gallery in Sector 10.

While the Tourism Department is yet to make an official announcement about this year’s carnival, sources with the Union territory administration said Bollywood singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya will be performing for the closing day event. A live band is scheduled to perform on the evening of the inaugural day, and Punjabi singer Harbhajan Mann will take the stage on November 15. Last year, singer Satinder Sartaaj had performed at the carnival.

A senior official with the Chandigarh Tourism Department said they will soon make an announcement regarding the performances by Bhattacharya and Mann. The Chandigarh Police have been directed to make adequate security arrangements in view of the large number of visitors expected at the carnival.

Last year, the three-day extravaganza was held by the department from October 25-27 on the theme ‘Wonderland’. In 2023, the carnival was organised based on the theme ‘Candyland’.

This year, however, a theme is yet to finalised amid suggestions from certain quarters that setting a theme would restrict the students’ options when it comes to staging the tableau. The inaugural day parade features a tableau by students of the Government College of Arts in Chandigarh.

The carnival will also have art workshops, displays by eminent artists, and photography exhibitions, besides the display of vintage photographs. Various activities have also been planned for children. A cycle rally and a marathon will also be organised as part of the annual carnival.
