A girl has been raped: False calls mobilises police teams, caller booked

Police booked the caller identified as Shrinivas Narayan Akole (42), a resident of Ramnagar in Warje, who works as a rickshaw driver. According to information given by officials from Warje Malwadi police station, on Sunday afternoon, the Pune police’s control room received a call on their emergency response system, where the caller said he had been witness to a man raping a woman at a location on the service road near the Warje Bridge.

Multiple teams from Warje police station, including those of the patrolling marshals, were dispatched to the location as the control room officials triangulated the call. The police teams reached the spot within minutes and again contacted the caller for further information. When a police responder started questioning the caller, they found that he was slurring his words and was making incoherent statements. The teams soon found out that it was a false call which he had made to cause trouble to the police.

“The caller, Akole, is a rickshaw driver and is an alcoholic. We have booked him and a probe is on,” said an officer from Warje police station. Police booked Akole under BNS Sections 212 and 217, which pertain to giving false information to public servants.
