A 60-year-old businessman was robbed at knifepoint by two unidentified motorcycle-borne men near Maharana Pratap Garden in Sadashiv Peth on Thursday night.
The victim, a resident of Shukrawar, lodged a First Information Report (FIR) at the Khadak police station on Friday. Police said the complainant runs an imitation jewellery shop on Kumthekar Road in Sadashiv Peth.
After closing his shop on Thursday night, he was heading home on a two-wheeler, carrying Rs 1.30 lakh in cash collected from the day’s sales, which he had kept in the vehicle’s trunk.
Around 10.30 pm, two persons on another two-wheeler rammed into his vehicle near Maharana Pratap Garden. The complainant fell on the road, after which the duo allegedly pointed a knife at him, snatched the cash, and fled the spot.
Following the incident, a team from Khadak police station, led by senior inspector Shashikant Chavan, visited the spot for investigation. Police said they have launched a search for the robbers and are scanning CCTV footage from the area to trace the suspects.
The two unidentified men have been booked under Sections 309(4) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Assistant Police Inspector Arjun Kudale is investigating the case.
In a separate incident, another businessman was robbed of ?45,000 by two motorcycle-borne men near Rajyog Lawns on the Bibwewadi–Kondhwa Road on Wednesday morning.
The 43-year-old victim, a resident of Sai Nagar in Kondhwa, lodged an FIR at the Bibwewadi police station on Thursday.
Police said the robbers, who came on a motorcycle, intercepted the complainant, robbed him of the cash, and fled the spot. They have been booked under Sections 309(4), 3(5), 352, and 351(3) of the BNS. A search is on for the accused.
