Five cops attached to Pune rural police have been suspended for allegedly aiding criminals in two separate cases.

Sub-inspector Sangram Patil and a constable attached to Shikrapur police station have been suspended for allegedly helping criminals in a case of steel theft from a manufacturing unit in Shikrapur in 2012,Pune rural police stated.

In the second case,constables Vikram Pasalkar,Shrikant Mali and Suresh Hinge were suspended for aiding suspects involved in smuggling of red sandalwood to flee after they were caught.

The probe was conducted by a senior police officer.

Meanwhile,inspector Nitin Gokave of the local crime branch has been shifted to the traffic branch and inspector Balraj Lanjile,who was with the economic offences wing (EOW),has been moved to the rural control room. Inquiries have been initiated against both. Manojkumar Lohiya,superintendent of police Pune (rural) said that a probe by an officer of additional SP rank revealed malpractice and the action was taken based on the report.
