(Express Photo) At least 29 people, including eight women, sustained injuries after two buses operated by the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd (PMPML) collided head-on with each other on the Pune-Ahmednagar Road Tuesday morning on the Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) lane.
The PMPML officials confirmed the incident and said the injuries are minor and those who were injured have been taken to Sassoon General Hospital.
An officer of the Vimantal police station said that the accident took place in the Kharadi area around 8.45 am. The two PMPML buses — one going to Talegaon Dhamdhere from Pune and the other coming from Wagholi and going towards Warje Malwadi — collided head-on near the Janak Baba Dargah bus stand.
As many as 22 passengers onboard the bus coming from Wagholi and seven others on the Talegaon Dhamdhere bus, including the drivers of both the buses and their assistants, were injured, the police said.
“The front portions of both the buses suffered heavy damages due to the impact of the collision. The injured include eight women, 17 male passengers and four others — the drivers and conductors of the two buses,” an officer of the Vimantal police station said.
Balupanchi Funde, the driver of the bus moving from Talegaon Dhamdhere to Pune, said, “The bus coming from the opposite direction was being driven at a high speed. I received injuries on my hand and received five stitches on my head.”
