Around 2,582 consumers cleared the principal arrears of Rs 2.49 crore under the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL)s Abhay scheme.
The scheme was introduced to help consumers whose electricity connections have been cut due to accumulation of bad debts.
At least 50 per cent of the interest on the principal arrears apart from the 100 per cent penalty has been waived.
Around 93 industrial consumers who have paid Rs 45.95 lakh,the public water works department and residential consumers are those benefited from the scheme.
Since they have cleared the arrears,new electricity connections will now be provided to them.
The remaining consumers have been urged to avail of the benefits of the scheme by June 30,a release issued here said.
