The sessions court on Friday sentenced two persons to life imprisonment in the murder case of 58-year-old Dattatraya Yemul,owner of Peshwai creations on Kumthekar Road. The order in this case was passed by sessions judge D R Mahajan.
It may be recalled that the duo Anita alias Meena Rajendra Khandbale (34) and Ajay Anant Ghag (30) had murdered Yemul on March 8,2008 at a hill in Sahkarnagar and looted him. Anita,a nurse,used to accompany Yemul during morning walks at Sarasbaug. Police had arrested her on the basis of the details of the phone call she made to Yemul before the incident.
However,on reaching the hill,Anita offered Yemul sugar cane juice laced with sedatives. Later,Anita and her accomplice Ajay attacked Yemul with a sharp weapon,causing his death. The duo took his money and about 60 tolas of gold ornaments and fled.
Public prosecutor Vijay Savant examined 34 witnessed in the case. Balasaheb Dhere,a witness and a friend of Yemul proved important in the case.
Dheres car had broken down on the Taljai hill and he was waiting for a mechanic,when he met Yemul. Yemul spoke to Dhere for a while before going ahead with Anita. Dhere had also seen Ajay on the hill. The police also recovered the looted ornaments from the duo.
