‘Shocked’ at ‘extremely lenient’ Juvenile Justice Board order in Pune Porsche crash case: Devendra Fadnavis
A man and a woman were killed after a speeding Porsche car, driven by a 17-and-a-half-year-old boy, rammed into their motorcycle in the Yerwada area of Pune in the early hours of Sunday.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who also holds the Home portfolio, on Tuesday expressed shock at the “extremely lenient” way the 17-year-old boy was granted bail by the Juvenile Justice Board despite allegedly mowing down two people with a speeding Porsche in Pune.
Fadnavis’s comment came after Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar said the force will move the High Court to try the minor accused as an adult.
”The order of the Juvenile Justice Board is shocking. We have filed a revision petition…I need not speak more on that,” Fadnavis said. “After two persons lost their lives, the 17-year-old boy was left off in an extremely lenient manner; we will not tolerate this,” he added.
A Juvenile Justice Board comprises a judicial member, a Principal Magistrate, and two non judicial-appointed members, who are social workers.
The order of the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB), Pune granting bail to the minor accused on Sunday was passed by Dr L N Danwade, one of the non-judicial members of the JJB, Pune as two other members including the Principal Magistrate and the second non judicial member were not present on the account of holiday.
Fadnavis said there is a lot of anger and resentment among the people after the death of the two youngsters. “In this regard, I held a meeting with the Police Commissioner and got details of the action taken so far as well as the future actions to be taken. We also discussed the steps to be taken to prevent such incidents in future,” the Deputy Chief Minister said.
Fadnavis added that in their remand application before the Juvenile Justice Board, the Pune police had clearly mentioned that after the amendment to the law in the wake of the Nirbhaya incident, those above 16 years of age involved in heinous crimes should be treated as adults.
“The Pune police had applied Section 304 of the IPC and had clearly mentioned in their remand application that the 17 year old should be treated as an adult,” he said.
