10 injured in attack by bee swarm near Sinhagad fort

According to information given by Pune Zilla Parishad officials, the incident took place when the 10 persons were visiting the Bhavani Mata Temple in Sambrewadi area near Sinhagad Fort.

10 persons from a family were injured in an attack by a swarm of bees near Sinhagad Fort on Thursday evening when they were visiting a temple on the Western side of the fort. The injured persons were being treated at a private hospital in Pune.

According to information given by Pune Zilla Parishad officials, the incident took place when the 10 persons were visiting the Bhavani Mata Temple in Sambrewadi area near Sinhagad Fort.

Zilla Parishad Chief Executive Officer Ayush Prasad said, “The incident took place around 6 pm. Information suggests that some of them fell unconscious after being stung by multiple bees. We were informed about the incident around 8 pm.”

Prasad further said, “Ten people have been injured in the bee swarm attack and are now undergoing treatment at Shreyas Hospital at Sinhagad Road. We are in touch with the hospital authorities and they have necessary resources to provide treatment. We have deployed two ambulances, in case any of the patients need to be shifted to other hospitals. The Taluka Health Officer has reached the spot and is monitoring the situation. We pray for their speedy recovery.”

In June last year, 11 tourists including children were injured in an attack by a swarm of bees on the Sinhagad Fort. Multiple such incidents have been reported in the past. In the last week of March last year, a group of 11 IT professionals who had gone for a trek to Kataldhar waterfalls near Lonavala were attacked by a swarm of bees leaving eight of them seriously injured.

On March 13 last year, at least 200 tourists who were visiting the historic Shivneri Fort located in Junnar taluka of Pune district were stung by bees. At least 25 of them required medical assistance. On April 24 last year, a 28-year-old engineer woman was seriously injured after she fell into a 100 feet deep gorge off a cliff on Rajgad Fort in Pune after a swarm of bees attacked a group of tourists.
