Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar addresses the 'Kisan Samagam' for the formulation of the 4th Agriculture Road Map, in Patna, Tuesday, Feb 21, 2023. (PTI) Bihar Chief minister Nitish Kumar on Wednesday took a dig at a farmer for using English words during the latter’s speech at an event.
Nitish reminded him that it is “not England but Bharat, Bihar”. The CM regretted “how the wider use of smartphones during the Covid had been distancing people from their own language”.
The Chief Minister was chairing a session of over 2,700 farmers from across the state in Kisan Samagam (farmers’ meet) in Patna ahead of formulation of the fourth agriculture roadmap. During his address, Nitish hailed farmers who come up with new ideas.
As Amit Kumar, a farmer from Lakhisarai, was using English words during his speech, the CM intervened and said in Hindi: “See, what has happened to people. When people learn some words after using smartphones, they are distancing themselves from their language. Is it England? It is Bharat, it is Bihar and you have been talking to farmers and you should speak in your language”.
The CM, however, praised the farmer later after he spoke completely in Hindi in the rest of his speech.
The Bihar CM, an electrical engineer, added that he did his courses in English but used to interact with people in Hindi or local language.
The CM’s intervention aside, several farmers got an opportunity to share their success stories during the event.
