With 130 arrests and 15 FIRs linked to the communal clashes during the Ram Navami procession on March 31, Biharsharif continues to remain on the edge. Prohibitory orders are in place in the town with all shops remaining closed for the fourth consecutive day on Monday.
Police on Monday evening found the body of a man from Bazar Samiti area under the Lahedi police station. Police said there were no injury marks on the body and the victim, who appears to be in his 60s, is yet to be identified.
“We have arrested 130 people and are scanning their background. But the priority is to restore normalcy,” said a police officer. Police are patrolling all the sensitive areas of the town and also trying to sensitise public against rumours.
In a video message, Nalanda SP Ashok Mishra said: “Several kinds of rumours are going on. We dismiss one such rumour about a policeman getting injured and his arms being looted. No such thing has taken place.”
Nalanda DM Shashank Subhankar said people have to be very careful. “The best way to find out the truth is to approach us directly rather than relying on social media,” he said.
Tension had escalated in Biharsharif after a 16-year-old boy was killed in cross-firing on Sunday night. Ever since, nine companies of paramilitary forces have been deployed in the town, which has a population of about 6 lakh.
Bihar CM Nitish Kumar took stock of the situation on Monday and attended an Iftar party in Phulwarisharif.
